Ukraine: The face of hope

Since Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Caritas partners have been working tirelessly to help those in need.

Your support today will help provide vital food, water, shelter and protection to vulnerable families fleeing the deadly conflict.

Ludmilla’s story

With your help, our partners have been able to assist 4.2 million people affected by the war through a joint emergency response.

28 year-old Ludmilla moved the stroller near the heater in Caritas tent, preparing a bottle for her 3-month-old daughter, Victoria. They were warmly welcomed by Caritas volunteers in Przemyśl, Poland after traveling for five days from home with her three children.

Thousands of people cross the border into Poland every day. A transit centre, run by volunteers, has been established to provide food, drink and overnight accommodation to those seeking refuge.

Having crossed the border into Poland, Ludmilla stood in a carpark with her family, feeling disoriented. The children were cold and hungry.

Arriving at the Caritas Poland tent, Ludmilla found some respite. The tent provided warmth, with Caritas volunteers swiftly arranged lodging for the night at a nearby school.

A banner hung at the back of the tent displays the word ‘hope’ - for many refugees fleeing the violence and uncertainty in Ukraine, that is what your support represents.
