Disasters and emergencies can strike in any place at any time. For Nadia and her two children (pictured, right), disaster came in the form of the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Türkiye (Turkey) and Syria in early 2023.

Nadia’s home was destroyed by the quake. She and her children escaped the building in the midst of the disaster, with bricks and masonry falling around them.

Luckily, Nadia and her family were invited to stay in a local parish, where Caritas was providing vital shelter and wellbeing support for families displaced by the disaster.
